Service Description

Next Steps- Outdoor Core Skills Programme for ages 16- 20 For the first time ever, Yorkshire WLD will be running a specific week- long outdoors course to build core skills. Are you getting ready for your next steps after school/ college? Do you feel that you want to focus on developing your core skills ready for employment or university? Yorkshire Woodland Learning and Development is offering a one of a kind opportunity this year to spend a full week in the great outdoors building your confidence ahead of your next step in life. Designed carefully by Emma Hird, a previous Teacher and Education Manager and now Forest School Leader, the week will include focus on communication skills, problem solving, presentation skills, wellbeing and leadership whilst engaging with the surrounding nature. The course is designed for anyone who would like to meet new people and learn core skills but specific attention has been paid to confidence building and this course would suit any young person who may have struggled with anxiety or faced challenges at school previously. Before attending the course, you will receive a form to fill out on which you can detail any specific adjustments you may need to take part and any particular things you would like to focus on. AS with a Forest School session, this will be greatly led by the participants and the week can be adapted to suit those attending. You will receive a certificate at the end of your course including the hours you have spent on the course and which skills you have focused on. As part of the week, we’ll work on leadership and creativity skills and there will be an opportunity to do a second week working as a volunteer for Meanwood Farm’s Playscheme week for ages 8-11. You will be able to have the chance to lead on activities including crafts, sports days and nature activities alongside leaders Hannah and Emma who will support you throughout the week and make sure that you feel part of the team. In order to take part in the volunteering, we must have a copy of your DBS certificate and a reference from your school/ college. Dates: Next Steps Course - Monday 10th- Friday 14th August (9.30- 3 each day) Playscheme Volunteering- Monday 17th- Friday 21st August (9.00- 3.30 each day) Cost for the next steps £125 for the whole week. Location: Meanwood Valley Urban Farm
